8 Easy Ways to Make Moving Eco-Friendly

You would not believe how harming most moves can be on the planet. However, more and more of us are becoming more conscious of how we are trying the planet on which we live. And so we should. More of us should be aware of the damages we are doing to the environment. When you live an eco-friendly life, you will find that you are living a cheaper life too. Waste is one of the major culprits to the earth’s deterioration.

But waste costs you money. When you don’t waste, you save money. So you have a lot to gain from being an eco-friendly human being.

If you want to move house with a clear conscience, follow these easy steps.

1.    Donate to a cause
The first thing to consider before moving house, is what you no longer use. Don’t take stuff with you to your new home unless you use it. Whether it’s clothes, books or anything else you no longer need, don’t waste your own space and money. Donate it to a good cause like a local charity shop instead of hording it in your home. It’s pointless taking it with you if you don’t use it.

2.    Recycle the leftovers
Did you know that over 50 million tons of electronics waste is thrown away every single year? If you have electronic goods you no longer want or use, give them away or recycle them so that they don’t simply get thrown away. Put them to good use.

3.    What’s in your fridge?
Before you leave, see how much is leftover in your fridge. If you have food in it that you most likely won’t have time to eat or won’t be taking with you, don’t throw it away. Give it away to your friends, family or neighbors.

4.    DIY packing materials
Buying plastic packaging materials and boxes can be a drain on the earth’s resources. You can actually save stacks of money by finding packing materials around your house. You probably have padded envelopes, used plastic bags, egg cartons, newspaper, and old rags and towels and blankets. All of these will come in good use when packaging your belongings and even better, you won’t have to pay a thing!

5.    Ask around
If you still need more packing materials for house relocation, go to your local shops and supermarkets and ask for used boxes. Most companies are happy to give away their boxes and normally, they are in fantastic condition. So scan the retail stores and ask for packing materials.
6.    Green van hire
Only use a removals company or removal van if they use bio-diesel trucks.

7.    Eco cleaning
When you clean your new home before placing your belongings inside it, check that the cleaning products you are using are eco friendly. They should be non toxic and biodegradable. Most health food stores sell eco friendly cleaning products now and they are more than affordable and healthy for your living environment too!

8.    Junk mail
Have you ever noticed how much junk mail you get? It seems to accumulate doesn’t it? And most of the time, it goes straight into the bin. Go to the post office and file a temporary change of address so that the postal system doesn’t pile junk mail on to your front door.

So, here are some easy ways you can make your move eco friendly. Moving shouldn’t have to harm our planet. If you make the right choices, you can do so much good for this earth. And you will save money too!
