Helpful Hints For An Eco-Friendly Move

Nowadays the environment is an important issue for millions of people around the world, and there are many ways of protecting it from global warming and the dwindling natural resources. It doesn’t take a lot to be a little greener and help towards protecting the planet. Here we take a look at some easy ways to help be environmentally friendly when moving house.

Moving house is a big job and along with it uses a lot of resources. Traditional moves use a lot of packing materials that fill landfill sites up and take years to break down. Then there is the fuel consumption that produces harmful toxins into the air. There is a growing trend to finding ways to greener removal services and help towards saving the planet.

Planning an eco friendly move should begin with trying to keep your belonging down to a minimal. This in turn reduces the size of the vehicle and cuts down on the fuel consumption. One of the first jobs on your moving checklist is to have a sort out. There is possibly things that are no use, broken or you just don’t use anymore. Start to sort out in piles and recycle accordingly, such as donate them to charities or give away to family and friends. You could get some money back towards the relocation and sell at local car boot sales, in local papers or list online sites such as EBay.

Even though you may not have a use for some of the items, there are so many solutions to helping others now, that your rubbish can literally be another person’s treasure!

General rubbish such as card, paper, gardening waste, glass and metal all have proper skips that will be collected and taken to special recycling centers to be reused again. Mobile phones, TV’s, PC’s and electrical appliances can all be recycled at local sites.

This should really cut down the load you need to move. The next huge drain on the environment when moving is the packing. There is a lot of cardboard boxes and plastic used. Some removal companies now provide reusable plastic boxes that come in all sizes and can be reused. This drastically reduces the waste created from cardboard. Also there are some companies that supply packing materials that are made from biodegradable materials. You could help save the environment and costs by using second hand boxes from food shops and furniture stores.  Reusing cardboard boxes rather than buying new is a help. At the end you can either pass them on to another mover or use them to store possessions safely. To cut down on the bubble wrap and plastic that protects your fragile belongings you could use recycled plastic, newspapers, cloth, old towels and sheets.

When you have got together all of your belongings, make sure you get an accurate calculation on the amount you are moving to arrange a moving van. Hiring the correct size removal vehicle will save wasted space and be more fuel effective. Making sure you only do one trip is better than repeat trips.

Finally moving out of you house will often mean there is a mess left behind. So make sure you sue eco friendly cleaning detergents to clean up the mess. There are various household ingredients that do as effective job including vinegar, bicarbonate of soda and lemon juice that remove the stains and clean just as good as stronger cleaning products. There are plenty of websites that list interesting uses with these ingredients that are easily obtained from supermarket. These non toxic ingredients are cheap and get rid of dirt that builds up in your house.
