How to Have an Eco-friendly Move

It is indeed important to be more aware of the environmental problems our planet faces today and unless we take action and become a more conscious consumer, the environmental destruction will affect all of us. Therefore, even down to when you move house, you need to make sure you are doing it so that it does not affect the environment negatively. If you are seeking an eco-friendly move, keep on reading and you can find out how to have an eco friendly move. It doesn’t have to cost you more or cause you any inconvenience.

All you will be doing is something amazing because you are taking care of your environment.

1. Green packing
One of the first steps in moving is packing and there is a way you pack eco-friendly. The way to do it is by using used packing supplies and recycling them. You should be able to find used boxes in garbage bins, in skips and most often suppliers will be happy to give you used boxes that are in excellent condition. It saves them having to get rid of them. You may even have friends and family that have moved before and no longer need their supplies. To package things, use newspaper, which you are bound to have lying about the house. Prior to moving, collect any scraps of materials – it will all come in use when you are moving house.

2. Eco friendly transit
You want as much space as you can in a fairly small vehicle. You don’t want to waste any space. The way to do this is firstly by disassembling large pieces of furniture and placing all the parts in boxes. This will save lots of space. Then, have a clearout and see whether there is anything you no longer need. You don’t want to take a load of stuff that you will end up throwing away when you get to your new home or office. Give it away or donate it – just don’t throw it away.

3. One journey
You don’t want to make several different journeys to your new house. If you want eco friendly moving, make sure it is just one or trip trips. This way, you won’t be causing damage to then environment by driving everywhere. Ensure all of your items fit into one van and make one round trip so that you don’t have to keep travelling backwards and forwards, wasting fuel.

4. Recycle
One you have moved everything, and you have unpacked it all, you will probably have lots of boxes and other packing materials left over. This shouldn’t be wasted either. You could either use all the materials again for a future move or give it away to others to use. Another thing you could do is recycle the materials. Nothing should be wasted.

5. Eco-friendly removals company
If you are definitely hiring a professional company for moving, make sure you ask them plenty of questions and don’t forget to ask them if they are eco-friendly. Do they use eco friendly packing materials and so forth? Most companies in this day and age should be far more environmentally friendly than what they used to be. This is because we all know clearly the damage we have caused to the environment over the centuries. So ask if they can
