There are so many jobs to arrange when you are moving house. It gives you the chance to have a good clear out and get rid of unwanted rubbish and unused things that you do not want to move to your new address. But, when it comes to tidying up it can take time. Going through the cupboards takes time, and often is a trip down memory lane!

  • Less belongings means less to move

Clearing clutter is refreshing and reduces the amount you need to move. This is good when it comes to arranging removal services! Make sure you start this job in advance as you need to dispose of your unwanted items. You can sell them using car boot or garage sales, local papers classified sections or list online on sites such as eBay. If you are feeling generous you could donate to local churches, schools and charities. Re salvaging old stuff is popular so your old items will help others on a budget or who like older things.

Start to inform all of those you know of your new address. It is easy to do many online just fill out online forms. For ease arrange for your post to be forwarded to your new address. This allows any contact you may have forgot to get to your new location. Consider your moving options. Do you have the funds to hire a moving company to do the entire procedure? Start packing

You will need plenty of boxes and packing supplies. It is hard to guess how many boxes you will need but ask at supermarkets and furniture shops to save any used boxes. Or you could order them from a local removal company or go online to sites such as eBay. Pack up one room at a time and in particular the items you don’t use that often. Protect fragile things with bubble wrap or polystyrene balls, seal and secure. Label clearly and even create a colour code for each room which means when you come to unpack you can distribute the box in the right room. For instance use orange labels for the kitchen.

As you pack, take apart large items and wrap in plastic to protect when being transported. Keep fittings together. Make sure boxes are not too heavy because they have to be lifted.
