5 Ways To Master Your House Move

Do you hate those people who always seem to have everything organised and planned-out to the tee? Those people who never seem to be stressed out about anything even big things like a house move? Then maybe you’d like to know exactly how they do it so that next time you can be the one who’s 100% chilled-out.

Well, if you want to get the upper hand right from the off, now is the time to learn about how to master your house move!

Plan – It may not be a thrilling process but if you want to experience a stress-free move then the devil is in the detail. Try to pick a moving day that is in the week to save on money and try to find a day when there are more people around to help. So if you know that both you and your partner can book a certain day off work then try your best to organise this as your move day. The more people that you have to help, the quicker your move will be! So sit down and work everything out to the tee!

Write A Removals Checklist – Once you’ve planned out the basics, you’ll need to write a comprehensive moving checklist to make sure that you’ve got everything covered. Everything from transport costs, packing, storage and cleaning needs to be included on this list so that you know exactly what you need to sort out before the day. Don’t forget about things that you’ll need to sort out at the other end; for instance, if you know that you’re going to need paintbrushes and cleaning products then try to get them ready in advance of moving day.

Prepare – Once you’ve written your moving house checklist, it’s time to start putting your well-made plans into action. Go out and get your removal boxes, packing materials and cleaning products so that when it comes to moving day you’ve got everything in hand. Remember that second-hand boxes can always be foraged from local businesses to save money and that soft household furnishings can be great for protecting fragile items.

Get Stuck In – Depending on how much stuff you have to pack, it is worth getting stuck in well before your moving date. Essential items should be left until the day before, while anything that you don’t need should be donated or given to friends or family in advance of the move. If you have things that you need to move into storage then this should also be organised before the day, so make sure you roll up your sleeves and get stuck in to whatever you can ASAP.

Be Super Organised On The Day – If you’ve planned, prepped and got well and truly stuck in before moving day then things should go to plan when the removal van arrives. But remember, the more organised you are the better! Make sure all boxes are labelled with a quick description of what’s inside and make sure that the movers know exactly where you want them to go at the other side. Ideally, if you’ve got people to help you during the day, you should make sure that there is someone at your old and new address at all times. This way you can make sure that any last-minute packing or cleaning is completed ASAP, whilst the unpacking process gets underway at your new address.
