Preventing Problems When Moving

A lot of problems can – and in many cases will – arise where a relocation is concerned. Moving house is a long, tiring and stressful process the fear of which is often enough fuelled by the fear of such problems, and which fear would be inexistent if you simply planned ahead. Appropriate planning can save you from a lot of troubles in the future and especially while moving. For instance, you hardly have to be afraid of your moving company not arriving on time if you have called to confirm the set date, right? And that is exactly why you have the moving checklist and why it should be created at least two months before the removals take place – to locate sources of problems and erase them one by one.

Prevention or Solution of Possible Problems

The best way to deal with your anxiety issues is to be prepared for what might come. Of course, the prevention is what you should be mostly striving for, but sometimes a problem will be inevitable or simply by accident, so you also need a solution to be ready for it. Here are the most common problems one may face while relocating and how to prevent or deal with them.

Removal company issues – Have a dialogue with your moving company. As stated, call them to confirm your moving date, more than once, if you feel it’s necessary. Ask to see their insurance company details in case of an accident. Call if you need help packing. Whatever you can think of and they can help set your mind at ease, help them help you.

Packing issues – The best place to provide yourself with boxes are the local shops and market. A good idea would be to also check the quality of the box and test it with heavy items before actually packing. Or use more sealing tape to make sure the box won’t tear. And as far as damaging items goes, use more fluff. Bubble-wrap is always a good idea, or you can scrunch up and put newspaper balls between the walls of the box and the items themselves. Also, start your packing at least two weeks before the move to avoid time troubles.

Car issues – If you will drive to your new address, make sure your car is checked by a mechanic, that everything is good to go, and that you have a full tank. Always keep jumper cables, tools and spare tyres in the vehicle. That’s what the movers do for their moving van, and so should you.

Service providers issues – Always call your new service providers to inform them about the date you want everything to be ready, and call your old service providers to inform them about your relocation and that you will no longer be needing their services. Do the former twice to confirm – you will need electricity and water at your new place at the very least.

Landlord issues – If you have a landlord, make sure he or she knows exactly when you will be moving out. Make sure you do your end of tenancy cleaning to get that deposit cheque back, and also make sure your new landlord knows when you’ll be arriving. Never leave a job unfinished when it comes to landlords, or some time will pass before you hear the end of it.

These are the basic problems, but more could arise. No need to panic, you merely need to sit down and think what you feel most pessimistic about. Every problem not related to money can either be prevented or solved, so you can surely think of something to do about it. Focus on all this when you are making your moving checklist and see how far it will get you. The more solutions you have at hand, the less stressed you will be when the removal van arrives to take you to your new home.
