The Expanding Economy of the UK

You might think that the United Kingdom is a rich place, but you will be surprised to find out just how rich it is and how rich it has been getting for the past few years. You don’t have to look for official documents and financial records to see that businesses have been doing well and that more and more people have endeavoured in undertaking. What you need to look at is how much commercial vans have been sold recently.

In 2015, over 400,000 units (423,894 to be exact: 371,830 standard vans and 52,064 in the truck sector) of commercial vehicles have been registered in the UK, breaking the previous record, which was set in 2007. That is a 16.7% better, year on year. Ever since the 2012 the commercial vehicle market has seen a steep increase, going so far as to even overtaking pre-recession levels. If you put your imagination to work, you can see for yourself just what the selling of all those commercial vehicles entails.

Ladies and gentlemen, business is booming in the United Kingdom.

Who needs commercial vehicles? No, that’s not a rhetorical question, an answer is needed. Service providers, removal companies, cleaning companies, clearance companies, pest control, delivery businesses, et cetera – and those are just the popular ones. With the purchases of so many vehicles you can deduce by yourself that there are many new businesses staring and many old ones are getting an upgrade. At the very least, and if you are an extreme cynic, it means that there are at least 400,000 new ice cream trucks out there to distribute creamy goodness to kids and adults.

But let’s think more optimistically and more practically. So many registered moving vans on the road means a lot of new job opportunities for drivers. The removals industry alone can add about a million new jobs if we calculate the rest of the movers that will be sitting in the removal van during a relocation job. Of course, they are hardly limited only to the moving industry, but the same goes for most service providers. More vans for a company means that that company is expanding and definitely creating more jobs to fill the needed crew to support the recent expansion. At the very least that means that services are being sought after and doing great for a change.

What’s even better about that is that the companies that are not expanding will try even harder because the competition is getting so fierce. With more competition come better offers, with better offers come better prices, and after all the prices have been minimised and levelled, companies will have to think about quality of service in order to keep the constant attention of its main source of cash flow.

Just like war inspired the greatest inventions, so will competition inspire the business mind to think in favour of the ones who actually fund it – the customer.

If so far the customer was only right, soon the customer will also be right, left, up, down, and all over the place. Maybe it is too far-fetched to say that there will be an altruistic commercial industry, but you never know what the masterminds of the service providers will think of to keep the customer’s attention and money flow to themselves.

Moving companies, service providers, and other commercial van users, beware. Business is getting bigger and customers will soon have more choices than the ones you are already offering. Stop thinking about sponsors and deals and advertisement, and start thinking about quality control. Very soon this will be the defining characteristic of any company. And if nothing works out... well, at least the commercial vehicle market got its big win. Congratulations to them!
