Eight Rules of Thumb For An Easy Move

Plan early

Moving can mean dealing with a lot of small tasks and planning holds the key to making it easy. Relocation can be both physically and mentally agonizing, ergo, it is always better to plan ahead if you don’t want to panic at the last minute. Plan out the date of moving, order sufficient packaging materials (everything from pencils to scotch tapes) and finalize the removal company you are going to hire. Remember that the more organized you are, the more are your chances of everything going smoothly on D-day.

Make a checklist

Have an eidetic memory? Remember all your friends’ birthdays? Moving is going to take more than that! No matter how much you trust you mental capabilities, always make a checklist because with thousands of commodities to pack and dozens of errands to be run before relocating, you are bound to forget something.

A checklist will prove handy and give you better control over your tasks.

Save on packaging

If you intend to make your removals easy on your wallet, avoid buying packing materials separately for the move. Most of the removal companies you hire will bring their packing materials if you ask them to. Also, it may surprise you that the unused cardboard boxes and bubble wrap that have been lying around the house or can be found at supermarkets can be put into great use now.

Never forget to declutter

Moving furniture can be a tough and time-consuming task. While you are moving, you might feel nostalgic about a lot of objects in your house but while memories are important, you must never forget to declutter. You might want to hold on to that old broken chair from your childhood, but it is only more junk that you are adding to the removal van and home, wasting precious space.

Take help

The anxieties of moving to a new place can quickly get to you; so get all the help you can from family or friends. They will divide the work graciously, alleviate you burden and also provide all the emotional support you need. If none of them are available, don’t hesitate to bring in professional movers to help you.

Label everything

You might have colour codes or any other innovative technique to organize the boxes but make sure you always label all of them with their content and the room they go to. This will help you avoid panic when unpacking. Also, if you have labelled the boxes, you can unload each one of them in the room it belongs and set up the room at your convenience.

Pack an overnight bag

With all the hassle and planning of moving and packing, you might easily skip the fact that you are going to need some everyday stuff as soon as you reach your new house and unpacking all the boxes in one night might not be a viable option. So just pack a small bag with all the important things you will need for the first few days like a toothbrush, a pair of clothing etc. so that you can get by daily chores without having to rush with the unpacking.

Make an inventory list

Irrespective of the unfathomable trust you might place in your removal company, you must always get a list of your belongings made and signed by the movers before you commence moving. It acts as insurance just in case something goes missing at the end of the journey and can also be used as a checklist when you unpack your belongings.
