How to Pack Your Belongings for an Eco-Friendly Move

In today’s society, more and more people are becoming aware of the importance of caring for the environment. Too many of us waste too much. It is vital that we care for our environment and our planet. When you move, you need to pack. Buying brand new packing materials might not be necessary. After all, you will only throw them away or something once you have used them, or maybe with this advice you won’t.

The main thing to remember is that you can have an eco-friendly move supported by eco friendly packing. Here is how to do it.

1. Search for used materials
Used items don’t always mean tatty items. In fact, most of the time something used can still be in immaculate condition. Some people throw away some really immaculate looking boxes that look great and pretty sturdy too. You will find them in bins and suppliers would probably be happy to give them away to you free of charge because they won’t need them any longer once they have unpackaged them.

2. Materials lying about the house
You will probably have tape, cardboard and labels lying about the house so you won’t have to pay out for these items. Make the most of what you have around the house and don’t let anything go to waste. If you have carrier bags, pieces of cardboard, tissue paper or wrapping from items you have bought, keep it because you never know when you might need to use it.

3. Recycle or use again afterwards
When you have transported all of your belongings to your new home or office, you will then be left with loads of boxes and other packing materials. There is no point in throwing any of it away because that would just be a complete waste. Instead, you could either recycle all of the materials or use it again for your next move. Or even if it isn’t for another move, you could use it again for anything else like storage or anything like that. Or you could even give it away to friends when they move. Basically, you need to make sure you don’t simply throw away any of it. It could be recycled, used again or given away to friends.

Packing is an important part of moving and it must be done if you are seeking a smooth move. However, it shouldn’t have to waste the planet’s resources. What is the point in buying all brand new packing materials when you are going to be transporting them briefly? It would be far more eco friendly to make use of used packing materials for when you pack and box. At least this way, you can pack with a clear conscience. We all need to start taking more responsibility for our environment. It affects all of us. The major change you make in your life – that anyone can do – is to stop wasting things. Instead, make it useful.
