What Should Be on Your Moving House Checklist

Most likely, you have been told before, but making a checklist prior to moving house is one of the best and most effective ways you can have an easy and stress-free move. A checklist makes you far more prepared for moving than if you were not to make one. You should definitely think about writing one and you will find there are so many benefits to doing so. However, how do you know what to put on your moving checklist? If you don’t know, keep reading and be prepared for a really easy domestic move.

Priority

1. Decide when you will be moving. Choose a date and stick to it. Once you have a date, you can work to that date and it will give you something to aim for rather than having no date.
2. Hire professionals if you don’t have the time to do it all by yourself.  A professional removals company on your side can make your life so much easier than doing it solely alone.
3. Choose a mid-week day for removal day. Weekends and bank holidays tend to be busy so choose a day in the week for moving.

Get prepared

1. Get insurance for your belongings in transit. Just in case anything goes wrong and anything gets damaged or stolen or lost, it is always good to have peace of mind when you relocate.
2. Clean before moving in. Ensure the house in which you intend to move is cleaned well before you put your furniture inside it. This will save you so much time and effort. You could either do it yourself or hire cleaners.
3. Have a clear out before you start packing and donate or sell anything you don’t use anymore. It’s unbelievable how many people move with boxes and boxes of things they never use. It’s just wasting space and money.
4. If you have kids or pets, ask a friend to look after them for the day. You don’t want there to be accidents.
5. Make important contacts know of your change of address. Or if you have any deliveries, tell them that you want to cancel because you are undergoing a house relocation. If you don’t do this, you will continue to pay for something you won’t see.
6. Sort out your keys and give them to the estate agent or whoever you need to give them to.

Other essentials

1. Purchase your packing materials and get packing, unless you are hiring professional packers to do it for you. You will need plenty of boxes, tape, labels, bubble wrap and packaging for cushioning.
2.    Consider storage
If you don’t want to move all of your belongings into your new home yet, consider using a storage facility. In here you can store anything you like and you can collect them anytime you like as well.
3. A vehicle
Whether you are hiring a removals company or doing a DIY house move, you still need a removal vehicle in which you transport your belongings. Some people will find a small van fine whilst others may need a truck. This obviously depends on the quantity of items you have. It’s good to make an estimate of how much space you will need for your belongings.
4. Make a sketch of where you would like certain pieces of furniture to be positioned in your new home when you are moving house. This way, the movers can place your furniture in the right place and it will save stacks of time, energy and utter hard work.
